Osteopathic Initial Assessment

Osteopathy is a gentle and safe manual therapy that is centered around treating the whole person. During your initial assessment, your osteopathic manual practitioner will listen to your concerns and ask questions related to your medical history. Details of your symptoms will be recorded and this information will help your practitioner develop a personalized treatment plan. With the time remaining, an assessment and treatment will be completed. If necessary, a follow up appointment will be scheduled.

See "What is Osteopathy" to learn more about the manual therapy.

2

Osteopathic Follow Up Treatment

A follow up appointment is scheduled two to four weeks from your initial assessment. Your osteopathic manual practitioner will inquire about any changes in your symptoms, such as your pain and/or mobility. To measure physical changes a reassessment is be conducted. The session is concluded with manual therapy techniques and recommendations and/or education for home care.

3

Paediatric Osteopathic Treatment

Paediatric osteopathy refers to the osteopathy that focuses exclusively on babies and children twelve years or age and under. Babies and children have different anatomical structures which are constantly shifting and changing as they grow. These constant changes may result in growing pains and physical discomfort. Additionally, difficulties with pregnancy and/or labour may also contribute to problems.

Similarly to an adult osteopathic initial assessment and treatment, a health history will be taken of your child and a very gentle physical exam will be performed. The treatment will comprise of gentle, therapeutic movements and stretches to help alleviate your child's symptoms.

See "Paediatric Osteopathy" to learn how Osteopathy can help your child.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy and Exercise Treatment

Osteopathic manual therapy and exercise treatment is a combined session for those who wish to work one-on-one to ensure they are moving safely and correctly. During the session, a movement and osteopathic assessment is completed. The osteopathic therapy focuses on mobility and alignment of the body and the exercise therapy incorporates appropriate stretches and strengthening movements to enforce proper movement patterns.

This option is also suitable for those who are pre- or post- surgery, are pre- or post- natal or currently pregnant, have pain with sports or daily activities, want to focus on optimal movement patterns, and/or have plateaued in their recovery process.

Please be advised that an initial assessment, whether in person or virtual, must be completed before booking this service.

Virtual Osteopathic Appointment

Virtual sessions focus more on helping you to better understand your symptoms and empowering you to take charge of your treatment plan. These appointments are a great option for those who are interested in reducing in person contact, clients who may be in quarantine/self-isolation or unable to travel to the clinic during this pandemic. Virtual appointments are a good option for those who have transportation or mobility difficulties (acute or chronic) as well as new parents who find it difficult to come in person either before or after their 6 week postnatal in-person check up. Also, individuals whose care no longer requires a full manual therapy treatment, but is focused more on exercise progression, education, lifestyle management and integration can benefit from virtual osteopathic appointments.

Whether you wish to do your initial appointment virtually, followed by in-person follow ups, or any combination of in-person and virtual sessions, these options are in place to help everyone to stay safe and feel comfortable while still having access to care.
